A day of fun and giving back on Bumbanani Day 2019

This year’s Bumbanani Day at Doulos Care Centre, held on Saturday 12 October, was a huge success and a day well spent giving back to the community. Launched in 1994, Bumbanani Day is an Afrox community volunteering initiative, and is part of Afrox’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The initiative focuses on hands-on involvement by Afrox staff, and making a meaningful and lasting difference in the community. As part of this initiative, the Afrox Gases team has adopted a local institution in Meyerton, Doulos Care Centre, an orphanage centre for HIV positive children without parents between the ages of 0-18.
The funds raised by the Afrox Gases team have contributed so far this year to upgrading the boys’ and girls’ ablution facilities, which has made a huge difference in the lives of the children. Toothbrushes, toothpaste and bed socks were given to the kids in personalised containers, a gas installation and supply of LPG for the feeding scheme was provided, stationery for the school was donated, and several donations of clothes toys and books were made. Bed socks were also given to the voluntary workers to say thank you for all their kindness.
Afrox Managing Director, Schalk Venter, and Nemenita Mohabir, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Afrox, took part in the activities on Bumbanani Day, which ranged from a magician show, playing games with the kids, setting up a jumping castle, and enjoying boerewors rolls prepared by the braai masters.
